Cocoon
Repeat the structure. Reshape the light.

01 / CONTEXT
The idea in context.
Cocoon is a modular LED floor lamp developed at the Academy of Fine Arts in Kraków. The user can assemble the lamp from any number of repeatable modules, while an exposed metal frame supports a soft textile interior that can be tensioned and reshaped by the user. The system combines a clear structural rhythm with an evolving, organic silhouette.

02 / DESIGN LOGIC
A small system of decisions.
Assemble
The user chooses how many modules to assemble, shaping the height and scale of the lamp.
Contrast
A visible geometric structure is deliberately paired with an organic textile volume.
Shape
Tensioning the inner material lets the user continuously alter the lamp’s sculptural form.
03 / MODULAR CONFIGURATIONS
One system. Your own composition.
Choose the number of modules to set the scale; tension the textile to shape the silhouette. Cocoon turns a repeatable structure into a personal composition of light. Two configurations, presented in the same evening setting, show how the system changes presence within a room. Concept renders.

04 / MATERIAL & INTERACTION
Light shaped by touch.
The frame provides a constant geometry; the textile introduces variation. Pulling the material towards different attachment points creates folds, shifts the illuminated volume and gives each module a distinct silhouette. This interaction lets the user compose a sculptural lamp within the same modular system.

05 / EXHIBITION
Cocoon at MOCAK.
The Cocoon prototype (2012) was presented in Lighting Studio at MOCAK’s Re Gallery in Kraków, from 15 May to 14 June 2015. The exhibition brought together lamp designs from the Academy of Fine Arts in Kraków, exploring light, material and interaction.
Cocoon was created during the second year of first-cycle studies in the Conceptual Design Studio led by Prof. P. Bożyk. The proposal used LED light as a cool, long-life source appropriate for the textile interior.
